Introduction
Under the support from the Social Welfare Department, the
Kuk launched a Pilot Scheme on On-site Pre-school
Rehabilitation Services (Pilot Scheme) since December 2015. The services have been regularised in October 2018 and two more service teams have been expanded to offer on-site services to participating
kindergartens (KGs) and Kindergarten-cum-Child care centres (KG-cum-CCCs).
Our multi-disciplinary team aims:
- To
enable children with special needs to receive the necessary training early in
the prime training period, on-site services are provided to the participating
kindergartens (KGs) and Kindergarten-cum-Child care centres (KG-cum-CCCs) for
children who are on the waiting list for SWD-subvented pre-school
rehabilitation services;

To
provide professional advice for kindergarten teachers/ child care workers to
assist them in working with children with special needs;

To
support parents on fostering positive attitude and providing effective skills
in raising their children with special needs.
Service Natures
For children with special needs:
- On-site individual/ group rehabilitation training; and training at centres equipped with rehabilitation facilities.
For teachers/ child care workers:
- On-site professional consultation services and demonstration, talks/
workshops/ seminars etc.
For parents/ caregivers:
- Talks/ workshops/ seminars.
Service Characteristics
- Our teams provide outreaching services to the participating KGs or
KG-cum-CCCs.
- Our professional team
comprises of Social Workers, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Clinical Psychologist/ Educational Psychologist, and
Special Child Care Workers. Our multidisciplinary team endeavours to provide a
wide spectrum of child care services, targeted treatment programmes for
children with special needs.
- Training is also provided at Early Education and
Training Centre (EETC) or centres with relevant facilities to meet the training
needs of children.
Eligibility
- Children with disabilities aged below 6 attending
the participating KGs or KG-cum-CCCs and on the waiting list of Social Welfare Department
(SWD)’s central referral system are given priority.
- Teachers/ child care workers and parents/caregivers
of children.

Application Procedures
- Referrals can be made by social workers or staff of rehabilitation
service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the
SWD.
